According to Formella, officers from the Manchester Police Department had responded around 4:40 p.m. to the Manchester Fairfield Inn to assist hotel staff with an occupant who had refused to vacate his room after the designated checkout time.
Upon making contact with the adult male occupant inside the hotel room, the man fired a pistol at the officers. In response, one officer returned fire, striking the occupant. Officers immediately provided medical aid at the scene.
