"I am deeply saddened to learn that a Massachusetts State Trooper was critically injured this evening after being struck in a hit-and-run incident on Revere Beach Boulevard," Gov. Maura Healey said in a statement Monday night. "This marks the second incident this month involving a trooper struck while in the roadway. My thoughts are with the injured trooper, his family and the entire Department during this difficult time. I wish him strength and healing in the days ahead. This incident is another stark reminder of the dangers our law enforcement officers face every day. I am grateful for their continued bravery and service."

"It was just a crazy scene," said witness Harry Shekhel. "I see a guy in a white shirt running like he was running for his life, like his pants were on fire."
Shekhel had just parked his car on Revere Beach Boulevard and was heading to the beach for a walk.
He says he hadn't taken 10 steps before the crash.
"Some people were pointing, 'That's him, that's him, that's him,'" he said.
They got away, and Shekel turned around to see the trooper on the ground.
"The officer's on his back, not moving," he said.
Footage from the scene showed Revere Beach Boulevard closed on one of the hottest days of the year as police investigated.
"It was a perfect summer day turned into a scene of mayhem in a matter of seconds," said Shekhel.
